Marché des Enfants Rouges
Haut Marais, 3e
↗ Open in MapsParis's oldest covered market, established in 1615 - over 400 years old. Named after an orphanage next door where the children wore red coats (enfants rouges).
Step through the iron arch into a joyful tangle of food stalls from around the world: Chez Taeko for impeccable Japanese bento, Le Traiteur Marocain for slow-simmered tagines and couscous that draws a queue every day, Chez Alain Miam Miam for legendary overstuffed sandwiches (the queue is the landmark), and Burger Fermier for hand-ground beef with cider-infused Tomme.
The market also has excellent Italian, Lebanese, organic produce, and a florist. Grab whatever catches your eye, find a table (they're shared - expect to make friends), and eat surrounded by 400 years of Marais history.
